As much as we love seas days, this is not a port intensive cruise and we certainly weren't expecting the three extra sea days! We, like most of the folks on board would have preferred to see the Whitsunday Islands and Cairns rather than be on the boat for the days that we were to go there. Someone referred to the ship as the SS Detour! Below is all we saw of Whitsunday!
Finally a clear day so the chef set up a beautiful buffet on the pool deck! The carved fruits and vegetables and the food arrangements are indeed gorgeous works of art!
And the restaurant and bar crew dressed for the occasion! On Indian buffet night, even the Phillipinos are Indian!
The restaurant hostess of the day shows us to the elevator! Yep, we're only two decks down but were just too lazy to walk!
The light blue line of water near the horizon was all we would see of the Great Barrier Reef.
As we get up toward Torres Strait, we see what looks like snow covered hills, but, we know that is literally not possible in 90-95° temperatures. Turns out to be VERY white sand dunes!
Out of the Coral Sea, we pass through Torres Strait between Papua New Guinea and the tip of Australia. Now, we're in the Arafura Sea just north of the Gulf of Carpentaria where last week that tropical storm (Oswald) that had wreaked havoc on our trip to the Great Barrier Reef had formed.
Putting the location names in perspective: The light blue line is where our journey has taken us as of the time of this photo. We bypassed Cairns and cook town is not even listed. It is at the little light green dot just above the "s" of Cairns.
